Engine Types
The e120s came with either the 4-speed standard transmission or automatic transmission.
2000cs
The 2000cs is the 4-speed standard transmission version. It was the most produced model for the e120s with 10,000 cars built. The power plant for the CS is the signature M10 4-cylinder engine with a 9.3:1 compression ratio producing 120 hp. The cylinder head is a "121" with a 42.1 mm pin-to-deck coupled with 5.2mm-domed pistons (piano tops). The fuel supply is via two Solex 40 PHH dual twin choke carburetors. This is the same engine as the 2002ti (not imported to the USA). The CS accelerates zero to 60 in 10.4 seconds with a top end speed of 110 mph. Slower than the 2002ti due to weight. The VIN numbers for the CS all begin with "110" and range from 1100 001 - 1109 999. 1967 models begin with #1105 634, and 68 models begin with #1108 218.
2000c
The 2000c is the automatic transmission model. References are confusing with "C" and "CA" descriptors. Nonetheless, the automatic version is noted with the "2000 C" polished aluminum badge on the trunk lid. 3,300 automatic e120s were produced. The power plant for the C is the signature M10 4-cylinder engine, but with lower compression ratio than the CS at 8.5:1 producing only 100 hp. The cylinder head is a "121" with a 42.3 mm pin-to-deck coupled with flat top pistons. The fuel supply is via a one barrel down draft Solex carburetor. This is the same engine set up used in the early 2002s. The C's performance is somewhat anemic compared to the CS due to the lower compression, diminished fuel supply and automatic transmission with a zero to 60 time of 12 seconds with a top end speed of 100 mph. Other differences between the CS and C include electric windows all around for the CS, but crank windows up front and electric windows in the back for the C. The VIN numbers for the C all begin with "100" and range from 1000 001 - 1003 249. 1967 model VIN numbers are in the 10001449. 1967 models begin with #1001 615, and 68 models begin with #1001 975.
BMW produced a "C" verses a "CA" with a limited number of 400 cars. These "C" models have the same engine specs as the CA" but with the 4-speed manual transmission. They are very rare. For intense and purposes the e120 automatic is a "C". The VIN numbers for the "C" (standard transmission) all begin with "120".
Wiring
All 2000C/CA models are 12 volt systems. BMW differentiated 6 volt and 12 volt systems between 1600cc models (1600) and the 2000cc models (2000/2000ti/Tilux/C/CA and 2002s) in the 1960s. BMW changed the 1600 models to 12 volt systems in 1968.

Body Paint Color Choices
Surprisingly, the BMW Neue Klasse Coupé came in 14 colors as referenced by the BMW 1500 1800 2000 Factory Workshop Service Repair Manual. Most 2000c/cs spotted on rare occasion seem to be white, then silver, and maybe red.
Of all the 2000c/cs color choices, the blue colors are the trickiest to decipher. It is also difficult to compare actual colors with published color "swatches" which are never very accurate. Another problem with understanding colors is that some owners get their cars repainted in what they think is the original color, but in reality is not. A good example is Granada red cars painted in a brighter red more akin to Verona red.
