Winter 2022: Repairing Lower Nose Section
Removing the car from the front portion of the rotisserie provided better access to repair the rust damage to the lower portion of the nose.
This is a notoriously bad place to find rust on the typ120s.
Essentially water tends to find its way through the multiple vents to settle at the base where the skin is spot welded to the heavy cross framing. Rust is especially pronounced where the bumper brackets bolt to the body.
Compounding this car’s issue is the a rectangular area of metal cut out to mount an A/C evaporator back when the car was new. Sometime along the way, that was removing with a gaping maw for water to wash into. See May-June 2018 Primitive 1960s Air Conditioning.
