Fall 2019: Treating Fender Cavities
The BMW 2000c/cs typ120 Karmann construction includes hidden cavities or shelves underneath the top of each fender. This is a notorious area where rust forms. See Understanding Karmann Construction (and Rust).
I am faced with two options. The first is to remove the fenders and the second is simply to cut open the tops of the fenders to reach the hidden areas. I decide to cut open the top of the fenders due to no serious evidence of rust and truthfully my lack of confidence in removing the entire fender and then welding it back with proper placement.
Another area I tackle is previous body damage around the headlight area. This damage poorly repaired in the past made headlight placement impossible due to a damaged edge to the headlight bucket or cavity.
I am able to salvage a proper patch panel from a parts car and weld it into place.
